Jewett grew higher & sleep in South Berwick, Maine. Jewett was schooled at a Berwick Academy. Her foremost story was ''Jenny Garrow's Lovers,'' published around 1868. This was followed by the constant stream of stories through the 1870s Number one establishing herself as the short story creator, Jewett formed a close relationship by owning Annie Fields and James T. Fields. When Annie Fields' married man died within 1881, them were together for the rest of Jewett's life (Fields died within 1915). Them were friends by having numerous of the independent literary numbers of their instance, including Willa Cather,Mary Ellen Chase, William Dean Howells, Henry James, Rudyard Kipling, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Alfred Tennyson, Oliver Wendell Holmes, Mark Twain, Sarah Wyman Whitman and John Greenleaf Whittier.
